“Let me tell you a story………..”

storytelling01

Isn’t it interesting that when we read, or repeat a fairytale to a child our voice and face seem to come to life – as if by magic.

There is nothing very strange going on here.  We are simply engaging our imaginations and letting the ideas flow spontaneously.  We see a picture in the mind’s eye and translate that into vocal variety and facial reflection.  So, do you tell stories in your business?
YOU SHOULD!
It’s a very simple way of making people listen, because we love stories, and telling someone about a problem you have solved or a recent important development in the business has more effect than “This is what I do”, because you are emotional.

Here are some ways you can use STORYTELLING

  • At a first meeting with a potential client have at least one story ready about a recent satisfied customer.
  • When networking ALWAYS include the story of something that has happened since the last meeting.  Your business then becomes a living, breathing entity which is successful, rather than and endlessly repeated list of in animated widgets.
  • Ask your customers/clients to write down their feelings about how you helped them.  Put all these STORIES in a pamphlet and give it to all enquiries.
  • At team briefings, let everyone know about the good news stories which have just happened or which are in progress. This is INSPIRATIONAL and MOTIVATIONAL.

I’m sure you will be would think of other circumstances where this might be appropriate for your company.

When we deliver positive news stories our face lights up, our voice moves about mstorytelling02ore, the tone is warmer and we directly affect the mood of the listener(s).

Why not try it and see?
